The Google Nexus 7 has understandably been attracting most of the attention at Google's I/O 2012, but they also announced another device known as the Google Nexus Q.
The Google Nexus Q enables smartphone and tablet owners to stream multi-media content straight to their television or speakers. In essence the device is very similar to Apple's Airplay accessory, but also adds social features.
The Nexus Q has a number of outputs including micro-HDMI, Ethernet, Optical Audio (SPDIF), Banana Speaker Jacks and a micro USB port. This enables you to easily connect it to your TV, Audio Receiver or Speakers.
The device is then controlled by your smartphone or tablet which connects to the Android 4.0 device using NFC, WiFi or Bluetooth. You can then play music from Google Music, Videos from Youtube and content from Google Play on your TV or speakers.
Google has event built-in some social features which enable your friends to share their playlists and music with the Nexus Q when its set to "Share Mode". Multiple Google Nexus Q's can also be connected to one smartphone enabling you to play music throughout your whole house. The Nexus Q also has 32 LED's which change colour in time to the music !
The Google Nexus Q runs on Android Ice Cream Sandwich , is powered by a dual-core processor and has 1GB of RAM. Amazingly, the Nexus Q also has a built-in audiophile quality 25W amplifier and 16GB of on-board memory.
The UK price or release date has yet to be confirmed, but the Nexus Q costs $299 in the US, so we expect it to cost around £200.
